Amy Mullins is an American track and field athlete, actress, and model who is often called one of the most beautiful women in the world. Born without fibula bones in her lower legs, she had both legs amputated below the knee at age one. She subsequently learned to walk using prosthetic legs and spent her childhood interacting with others through swimming, cycling, skiing, softball, and soccer.
After graduating from high school with honors, she was one of only three students selected for a full scholarship by the U.S. Department of Defense. At 17, she worked as an intelligence analyst at the Pentagon, becoming the youngest person ever to receive a top-secret security clearance.
Two years later, Amy left the Department of Defense to attend Georgetown University and prepare for the 1996 Atlanta Paralympic Games. Collaborating with cutting-edge medical engineers and prosthetists, she wore carbon-fiber prostheses modeled after a cheetah's hind legs. At the Atlanta Paralympics, she set world records in the 100 meters, 200 meters, and the long jump. Her long jump record from that time remains unbroken.
Following her athletic success, Amy garnered attention from various quarters and was invited as a speaker to numerous international conferences. Her appearance sparked discussions about diverse definitions of beauty, leading to an invitation from the world-renowned fashion designer Alexander McQueen to walk the runway in London in 1998.
Gaining fame in the fashion press (Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, W, Glamour, Elle), she was named one of People Magazine's "50 Most Beautiful People in the World," one of Esquire's "Women We Love," one of Jane Magazine's "10 Most Awesome Women," a "Cool Girl" by Sports Illustrated, and the "Hottest Muse" on Rolling Stone's Hot List.
In 2011, she was named a new global brand ambassador for L'Oréal Paris, the world's largest beauty brand. Amy Mullins is a sought-after speaker at prestigious international events like the globally famous TED conferences; her speeches have been translated into 41 languages and viewed by millions worldwide. In 2012, she was named a Young Global Leader at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
