Young-soo Kim: Chairman of the Korea Sima Qian Society
After specializing in the history of ancient Korea-China relations, Young-soo Kim has spent nearly 30 years tenaciously studying and tracing Chinese history through Sima Qian’s "Shiji" (Records of the Grand Historian). Since publishing the first volume of the "Complete Translation of Shiji" series in 2010, his decade-long project to provide a full translation stands as a monumental milestone in his academic journey.
In 2007, he introduced Sima Qian and the "Shiji" to the public through a 32-part EBS lecture series titled "Young-soo Kim’s Shiji and the 21st Century." Since then, he has been dedicated to disseminating what he calls "Applied Historiography"—integrating the wisdom of "Shiji" into organization and management for major corporations, public institutions, and educational organizations.
Since 1998, he has visited Hancheng, the birthplace of Sima Qian, over 30 times, maintaining steady exchanges with Sima Qian’s descendants, scholars, and government officials. In 2007, he was honored as an honorary villager of the city. He formerly served as a professor at Youngsan Won-Buddhism University and is currently the Chairman of The Korea Sima Qian Society.
