An Engineer Interpreting Civilization and South Korea’s Foremost Authority on the Fourth Industrial Revolution
Professor Jae-boong Choi serves as a professor in both the Department of Service Design Convergence and the School of Mechanical Engineering at Sungkyunkwan University. He is a leading expert on the Fourth Industrial Revolution and an engineer who interprets civilization through his integrated and future-oriented interdisciplinary research. By breaking down barriers between fields—such as merging mechanical engineering with product design or animal ethology—he continues to transcend academic boundaries.
He graduated from the School of Mechanical Engineering at Sungkyunkwan University for both his undergraduate and graduate studies and earned his Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Waterloo in Canada.
As a bestselling author, he gained significant recognition for his book Phono Sapiens, in which he analyzes the rapid and profound shifts in humanity caused by the advent of the smartphone.
Since 2014, he has delivered more than 1,200 lectures on the Fourth Industrial Revolution and "Phono Sapiens" to corporations, government agencies, and educational institutions. Through these, he highlights the revolutionary changes brought about by a new human civilization and proposes innovative strategies for the new era. He has also broadened his public reach through television appearances on programs such as JTBC’s Differential Class and Sebasi (Change the World in 15 Minutes).
His publications include Phono Sapiens, Global AI Trends and the Science, Culture, and Future edition of Differential Class.
